Site Council

Members Present:  Bakala, M., Cimino, M., Komoade, K., Plaeger-Brockway, M., Williams, S.

 

Mr. Cimino called the meeting to order at 6:08 pm. 

 

Facilities Projects:  Mr. Cimino distributed a written response to the Site Council that included bid quotes for the Sports Court.  Bids fall within the $50,000 budget.  Follow-up:  Bids to be forwarded to Bob Wolpert.  Science Room remodel is scheduled to begin this summer.

 

Vice Principal:  Michael Havens was selected as Jefferson¹s Assistant Vice Principal to replace Paul Anders who has acceptable a full time Assistant Principal position at Washington Middle School.  Mr. Havens comes from Marshal Middle School where he was an 8th grade block teacher.  The interview process, which included administrators, teachers and parents, was quite involved.   A total of 88 applicants were screened.

 

Skyward Review:  Mr. Cimino reported that all Jefferson staff have been trained on the Skyward Computer System. Approximately 50 families have been given access to the system to pilot.  To date, only minor glitches have been found with the system.  Follow-up:  All JMS staff will be using the system by Fall 2006.

 

Microscope Donations:  Mariel Plaeger-Brockway reported that approximately $3200 has been collected for a microscope donation drive which included a $600 donation from JSSO. In addition to the new microscopes, a teacher eye piece attachment will also be purchased.   Follow-up:  Monthly updates.

 

Math Program:  The CMP Math program was piloted this past year with a group of Jefferson 6th graders.  MAP (Oly Alt) Math scores improved as a result.  The pilot will be extended to the 7th grade for the 2006-07 school year. Follow-up:  Math staff will begin training over the summer.  School Board to continue to evaluate the CMP program.

 

Other Announcements:  Waivers for kids who want to participate in the ³REACH² program will be offered.  All incoming 6th graders will be required to take a music class (choir, band or orchestra) for their elective.

 

The next Site Council meeting is scheduled for September 12, 2006 at 6:00pm.  Future agenda topics and membership were discussed.
