Site Council

Members Present:  Bakala, M., Cimino, M., Haggen-Quinn, L., Kirkpatrick, S. Komoade, S., Lawrence, K., Plaeger-Brockway, M., Williams, S.

 

Mr. Cimino called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm. 

 

Facilities Projects:  In response to a memo (dated 4/17/06) from members of the Site Council, Mr. Cimino was able to obtain the architectural proposals from the district on the Sports Court and Science Room.  The plans were reviewed after a tour of the current Science Room and outside space. Follow-up:  Construction to begin this summer.   Committee continues to await a response to a request from the district for the budget breakdown for each project.

 

Microscope Donations:  Mariel Plaeger-Brockway updated committee members on the microscope donation drive.  Funds for approximately 15 microscopes have been received to date.  The goal is to purchase 30 microscopes.   Follow-up:  Community members and parents are being solicited for donations.  Updates monthly.

 

Residential Artists:  Steve Franklin, a local artist and teacher, has been approached about working with interested Jefferson students to repaint various murals throughout the schools.  Approximately 10 students would be selected to participate in this project over the summer.  Follow-up:  Updates monthly.

 

Assistant Principal Position:  Susan Kirkpatrick volunteered to represent parents in the interview process for a new assistant principal to occur in the next few weeks.  Mr. Anders will be leaving Jefferson at the end of this year to accept a full time Assistant Principal position at Washington Middle School.

 

WASL Testing:  WASL testing is completed.  Follow-up:  Scores for 10th grade students will be released before the end of the school year. All other grades will be available in September. 

 

Budget Advisory Committee (BAG) - Melanie Bakala has been attending BAG meetings as the Jefferson parent representative.  The district would like to add an Autism expert and is exploring the cost of curriculum adoption.  Follow-up: Monthly updates.

 

Skyward Review:  Mr. Cimino reported that a group of about 30 parents have been orientated to the Skyward Computer system.  They have been given passwords and are able to view information about their student from any computer with internet access.  For example, assignments, attendance and grades can be accessed.  Follow-up: Updates to follow on piloting of system.

 

The next Site Council meeting is scheduled for June 6, 2006 at 6:00pm.  Future agenda topics include: Facilities project budget.
