Meeting Minutes

October 14, 2008

 

 

I.             Attendance:

                  Michael Cimino, Prinicipal

Tracy Pulsipher- Teacher

Kristi Smith- Teacher

                  Janet Buchholz – 8th Grade

Tamarah Hoffman – 7 & 8th Grade LP Brown

Lisa Mallott – 7th Grade LP Brown

Dan Swanswen- Community Member at Large

Dave Yantis – 6th Grade LP Brown

 

                 

II.           Board   Information

A.              Diversity

1.  We would like to have parents representing all grades and

      from both elementary schools, LP Brown and Garfield. (Site Council Guide Bylaws)

2.   If we know anyone who would like to participate coming up from Garfield, to notify them of the meeting dates and give their name to Mr. Cimino.          

B.  Meeting Date

1.   After discussion – we will stay the 1st Tuesday of the month.

C.  Board Positions for the Year

1.   Tamarah Hoffman agreed to be Secretary

2.   Dan Swanson was nominated and voted in as Chairman during his absence, he needs to accept position  ( He has declined)

 

    III.   2008-2009 Board Focus

A.  Facilities

1.   The Bond is up in 2009

a.   Discussion – do we run a bond in these hard economic times? – decision yes

2.   Currently Jefferson is the only Middle school that yet has been remodeled (last partial remodel in 1994)

3.   We need to have a presence – Dan Swansen – on the facilities committee to make sure we do not get over looked

4.   Current Problems:

a.   very expensive to replace the roof. (over a million?) since our roof currently leaks, most leaks have temporarily repaired.

b.   inability to power all the computers

c.   Old, used furniture

5.   Advantage: 93,000 sq feet so we have the ability to modify

6.   Future possibilities merging Marshall & Jefferson??   Remodel this building to meet the needs.

7.   TO DO: 

a.   What is the deadline for Bond/ Levy?

b.   Have meetings at other middle schools to look at their facilities to see the difference and what we would like.

Next three meeting at different middle schools.  First one at Marshall.

 

     

 

B.  New Students into Jefferson

1.   Want to know how the new students enjoyed the open house

2.   Want to know how we can help students transition smoother to Capital.

3.   Want transfer students to assimilate smoother into the “Jefferson Way” decreasing problems.

a.   Cimino is going to resurrect his juice/donuts with Transfer students to keep in touch with them.

b.   Anything else we can do to help with these problem?  Parents in the hallway? Assign buddies to them?

 

C.   How can we address the needs of free& reduced below poverty students?

 

 

IV.     Past Business

A.     Healthy Lifestyles

1.      Does anything need to be scheduled?  Drug/Alcohol

 

B.      Student Learning Improvement plan and Site Improvement Plan

1.      Do we need to review in light of working on facilities?

C.     Communications

1.      Teacher communications should have increased by their website

2.      We are currently having problems maintaining our website current, due to the process we have to go through to get things posted – Dave Yantis with work with Mr. Cimino and AnnMarie Ratliff  regarding this.
