Present:  Buchholz, J., Cimino, M., Hoffman, T., Mallett, L., Plager-Brockway, M., Swanson, D., Williams, S.,

 

Mr. Cimino called the meeting to order at 6:10 pm. 

 

Introductions:  Mr. Cimino welcomed all present and distributed bylaws.  Membership representing each school/grade was reviewed.  Suggestions for staff representation were discussed.  Meeting schedule- first Tuesday of month, 6pm library.  Tentative topics and focus for committee discussed.  Follow-up:  Application for Site Council membership to be distributed in October newsletter.  Mr. Cimino to invite two staff members and JSSO representative to join.

 

Technology:  Mr. Cimino discussed the technology additions to the building as a result of the passed Levy. Total number of new computers received for building: 103.  Demonstration of classroom laptops and projectors (ŗElmošs).   Both Mac and PC labs will eventually be available at JMS.  District technology department working on phase-in for all buildings.  Follow-up: Monthly.

 

Accident reports: 5 year totals for staff accident reports reviewed.  JMS high compared to district.  Each incident reviewed.  No patterns discernable at this point.  Follow-up: As needed.

 

2007 WASL Scores- Trends for each grade reviewed and compared to historical scores.  More analyses by JMS staff to be done in upcoming year.  Committee members discussed the following:  reading policy and lack of consistency in block classes, the impact of CMP math program, staff changes.  Follow-up:  Monthly. 

 

Budget/Class size/Staffing:  1.6 staff members cut from last year.  With increasing budget cuts forecasted, this is expected to increase next year also.  Average class size JMS is 28.5.  Follow-up:  Dan Swanson agreed to again serve on the Budget Advisory Committee and update this committee.  BAG meetings to begin in October.

 

Skyward: New JMS policy states bi-weekly updates at minimum to Skyward.  Some parents have noticed that this minimal standard is not yet achieved with all staff.  Those present unanimously agreed how important Skyward is in helping their student manage their workload.  Follow-up:  For future committee discussion and possible letter to be generated from this committee.

 

Future Topics: Partnering with JSSO, Clearing House for Fund Raising, Science Curriculum Review Committee.
