Happy Friday, Jefferson Community! 

As we move through mid-October, we are focusing in on our habits and responsibilities - both as students and as members of a diverse and lively community. In the academic realm, that means taking care of missing work. This weekend would be a great time to ask your student to show you how things are going. In their gradebook, you should be able to see grades, of course, but also important: missing work. This lets us know how they’re keeping up with the responsibility of doing the classwork that is prerequisite for the learning. Today, I let students know in our morning announcements that we will have a shift in our plans for next week. Instead of having our typical Open Jag Time on Tuesday and Thursday, we will have all students go to Homeroom for added work time. It’s a week dedicated to academic reset and will hopefully help students get caught up as needed. For students who are keeping pace with their studies, it will be helpful to have a book in the backpack so that we can have quiet work spaces throughout the building for Jag Time during this reset week!

As members of a shared community, we are also supporting students whose habits and interactions sometimes need support. That is a very normal part of moving through the middle school years. We encourage students and families to let us know early when a frustration is rising so that we can offer support and help students develop more skills around how to navigate frustrations or challenges in ways that are empowering, safe, and build positive community for us all. We can do hard things! And, we have many adults here to support that part of student growth in middle school alongside the academics.

Students who missed picture day or would like a retake will have an opportunity to have their picture taken. Students will need to bring back their originals to turn in for retakes.

Conference week is almost here! This is a great opportunity to connect with teachers, celebrate your student's successes, and discuss their progress.

⏰ Early Dismissal Reminder: Students will be dismissed at 12:15 PM during conference week.

Online conferences are available on Monday for families who absolutely need a virtual option. Sign ups will be available through Skyward.

Looking for something fun to do after school? Join the South Sound YMCA THRIVE Program and Ultimate Frisbee Olympia for a FREE afternoon of Ultimate Frisbee at Jefferson Middle School! 🐾

All skill levels are welcome! Students will learn throwing and catching skills, practice teamwork, and enjoy friendly scrimmages.

School dismisses at 12:15 PM that day. Students attending the workshop may stay on campus and head to the cafeteria to eat lunch before the workshop begins at 1:00 PM.

👟 What to Bring: A water bottle, athletic shoes or cleats, and comfortable clothes for outdoor activities.

This workshop is FREE for all Jefferson students! Students simply need to be enrolled in the free YMCA THRIVE Afterschool Program to participate.

We're excited to recognize students who are showing outstanding preparedness in homeroom! 💜🐾

Students are nominated by their homeroom teachers for demonstrating this important Jaguar expectation.

We will come together in grade level assemblies to celebrate nominated students. Friday 10/23/26 at 1:15 pm. Families of nominated students are invited to join us in recognizing their student's achievement.

The holiday season is approaching, and we want to make sure our Jaguar families feel supported! 💜

Jefferson Middle School is partnering with 4 The Love Foundation to offer food boxes to families who would benefit from additional support over the November break.

Families may request one of two options:

Includes a frozen, uncooked turkey, side dishes, rolls, and pie.

Includes bread, bagels, rice, beans, cereal, spaghetti noodles and sauce, peanut butter, jelly, apples, and cookies.
