REACH Resurrects DRACULA and FRANKENSTEIN: Photos and Videos

The students in the second semester REACH program at Jefferson Middle School pulled the stake out of Dracula and resurrected the Frankenstein Monster with four new productions based on the classic novels by Bram Stoker and Mary Shelley.

The 6th grade production of FRANKENSTEIN debuted June 13 at 5:45 p.m. and the 7th and 8th grade production of DRACULA debuted that same night at 7:15 p.m.  Refreshments were provided between both shows.

A different group of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders performed their own versions of these shows the following night, June 14.

All shows were open to the public and admission was completely free.

The shows were completely student-written and directed.  The scripts were written by the students over the course of their semester in REACH.  The music, lighting, and staging were all headed up by students as well.

Goals of the program reflect the use of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.  In the first quarter, students analyze high school-level text and learn the research process.  In the second quarter, students work together to bring what they have learned to life through a theatrical production.  Students learn to write scripts, build sets, direct audio and lighting, as well as act on the stage.  In the last weeks of the semester, they put on a completely student-made production for the school and local community.
