Learn skills with real-world application

 

Woodshop

This course is aimed at any student interested in learning about the world of wood working and construction. The students will learn how to work with a variety of machines and processes found in the carpentry and wood working trades. During this course students will learn how to plan, select and use materials, including tools and machines to produce a finished product. Emphasis will be on safety, time management and quality of workmanship. Students will also work on presentations related to the art of woodworking and on construction trades.

Material Technology

This course will focus on stage and entertainment technology with a focus on set design and construction. Students will learn drafting, model making, set design, set construction, prop construction, scenic art and audio recording/reinforcement. The class will also provide technical support for the REACH and Visual Communications programs by building and painting props and scenic elements for productions. Students will research careers in entertainment and styles of design and architecture while learning time management, project planning and collaborative work skills.
